Cristiano Ronaldo baffles fans with unnecessary new headband as he helps Juventus beat old rivals Atletico Madrid

CRISTIANO RONALDO was back for Juventus – but it was his headband that stole the limelight.

The striker has been struggling with a knee injury and missed Juve’s 3-1 away win at Atalanta at the weekend.

But he was back in full flow for their Champions League clash at home to Atletico Madrid – showcasing a new hair accessory.

And it left football fans baffled on social media – not least because it hardly looked like his hair would get in his eyes anyway.

Antonio Manzano wrote: “Wait. @Cristiano hair is too short to be wearing a headband. Looks cool tho.”

And another Manchester United fan, where Ronaldo really announced himself, posted: “Never thought I’d see the day that Cristiano Ronaldo wears a headband during the game.”

Another cheekily suggested that it didn’t suit the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, and that Fernando Torres “is the only footballer I know who looked good in a headband, none else, not even Becks.”

NO GOALS FOR RONNIE

Others were quick to post that he was following the likes of former team-mate Gareth Bale and even Joey Barton in wearing one.

As far as the game went, Paulo Dybala curled in a free kick from the unlikeliest of angles to give Juventus a 1-0 Champions League win.

This leaves the Spaniards with a battle to secure a round-of-16 place.

Juventus, already qualified, won the free kick just outside the penalty area and near the goal-line.

But the narrow angle did not deter Argentine Dybala who fired his shot over the wall and in off the crossbar in the 45th minute.

The Turin side, with 13 points from five games, made sure of winning Group D with one match to spare.

Atletico, beaten 3-0 on the same ground last season when they were on the wrong end of a Ronaldo hat-trick, were left on seven points after their second successive defeat in the group.

They are one ahead of Bayer Leverkusen.
