Happy almost Halloween, everyone! Horror-centric streaming service Shudder has ordered Creepshow season 2.
Creepshow is a reboot of the classic George Romero-directed horror film of the same name. As run by gut and grime specialist Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead), this iteration of Creepshow told 12 short horror stories spread out over six episodes in its first season.
“Creepshow has met every expectation we had for Shudder’s first original scripted series and then some, with record numbers across the board,” Shudder GM Craig Engler said in a statement. “Greg Nicotero and his team delivered an amazing show that’s unlike anything else on TV and we’re thrilled and delighted to bring it back for another season.”
Like other streaming shows, the metrics for Creepshow‘s success are, let’s say, unaudited. But Shudder claims that more than 50% of Shudder subscribers watched at least one episode of the series. That begs the question: what on Earth was that remaining 50% doing?
The original Creepshow premiered in 1982 and featured five original stories from Stephen King, eventually becoming a cult classic. The Creepshow reboot features another King story (Gray Matter) as well as a story from King’s son Joe Hill (By the Silver Waters of Lake Champlain), who also portrayed the young comic fan Billy in the original movie. The series is full of family ties with the Hill connection and the original film’s effects artist Tom Savini returning to direct an instalment. Even showrunner Nicotero was around the original Creepshow set as Romero’s young ward.
“For me, Creepshow has been a true labour of love,” Nicotero said. “To be able to pay tribute to George A. Romero’s visionary project and have the show so embraced by fans everywhere is humbling to this horror kid from Pittsburgh. I couldn’t be more pleased and look forward to continuing the series with more ghoulish delight.
There’s no word on a release date yet but…like, come on. See you all next Halloween season!
