Crash Team Racing tops slow August charts

As expected, it’s been a quiet August at retail. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled topped the monthly physical charts for the second time this year, having debuted at No.1 in its launch month back in June. This good August performance was despite a 48 per cent decrease in sales month-on-month for the Activision title.

Super Mario Maker 2 meanwhile had to settle for No.2 for its third month on sales, after enjoying a No.1 spot in July. Sales for the Nintendo Switch title were down 59 per cent month-on-month.

You had to look further down the charts to see a new entry in the listings, with Madden NFL 20 debuting at No.11. Surprisingly, considering EA’s important digital shift, launch physical sales for the title were up 8.1 per cent compared to last year’s entry, Madden NFL 19.

Looking at the market in general for August, the Switch once again surpassed the Xbox One in terms of units sold. In revenue, it surpassed both the Xbox One and the PS4 – Switch software sales represented 40.8 per cent of the UK market’s value in August, versus 20.5 per cent for the Xbox One and 34.9 per cent for the PS4.

In the publishers’ charts, Nintendo was also No.1 once again, in both value and units, followed by Activision Blizzard and Warner Bros.

Overall, physical software sales in the UK were down 18.7 per cent month-on-month in value, and 12.7 per cent in units this August. Year-on-year, revenue was down 18.9 per cent and unit sales decreased 16.3 per cent.
