Craig David has shared his excitement at being made an MBE in the New Year Honours for his services to music.

The legendary singer, 39, shared a photo of the envelope he received from Buckingham Palace which was addressed to ‘Craig David Esq. MBE.

He told his followers: ‘Hits differently when you receive the letter though. Thank you for all the Love you’ve all been showing me for so many years!

‘I appreciate & Love you. I am very honoured. Have a lovely day #Love CD x’.

Craig first found fame in 1999 with the track Re-Rewind (The Crowd Sat Bo Selecta) by Artful Dodger,  who also helped Craig write and record a lot of his debut album, 2000’s Born To Do It, including Fill Me In and 7 Days.

Born To Do It cemented Craig’s status as an artist, going straight to number one and becoming the fastest-selling debut album by a British male solo artist to date.

Although subsequent albums didn’t chart as well as the debut, Craig made a hugely successful comeback in 2016.

He released his comeback record My Intuition which saw him back on the number one spot on the charts as well as landing a slot on Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage the same year.

Since his comeback, Craig has collaborated with other artists including Bastille, AJ Tracey and Kaytranada.

Other stars being recognised in the New Year Honours include actress Nina Wadia being made an OBE for services to entertainment and charity as well as Coronation Street’s Sally Dynevor who has been made an MBE.

Actress Sheila Hancock has also been made a Dame, to which she joked: ‘I’ve never felt myself this sort of person.

‘It just doesn’t happen to people like me. I feel I may be lowering the tone. I feel slightly miscast, let’s put it that way.’
