Craft brewery crowdfunding tops £2m in a month

Innis & Gunn’s crowdfunding for its new brewery in Edinburgh has topped £2 million in a month from over 1,200 investors.

The brewer aims to raise £3 million to help fund the construction of the brewery, with investments starting at £20. The new brewery will bring all production and packaging in house, reducing costs and the company’s carbon footprint. It will create around 30 jobs and allow Innis & Gunn to brew for others for the first time.

The brewery, due to open in 2021. is to cost around £20 million, with help from a £15 million.

Dougal Gunn Sharp, founder and Master Brewer, said: “Huge thanks to our investor community for helping us reach this crucial stage in our Beer Money crowd fund campaign. Our ambition to put Edinburgh back on the brewing map is now well advanced, and we have our amazing investors to thank for that. We’re also delighted that discussions are progressing with our preferred lender for the loan to build the main brewery structure.”

In the three years since its last crowdfund Innis & Gunn has grown to almost 21 million pints and increased turnover to over £25 million. Its lager accounts for three-quarters of craft lagers sold in Scottish supermarkets and it’s the eighth biggest take home alcohol brand in Scotland.

The brewer also successfully relaunched its pubs as Brewery Taprooms this year with takings up 30%. The concept will be rolled out across the UK with two new sites each year for the next three years.
