When Katie Wilson discovered she was pregnant, she knew she wanted to come up with a creative way to tell her friends and family the big news.

She also knew she wouldn’t be able to tell everyone in person, due to Covid-19 restrictions.

So, in honour of Halloween, Katie, 35, decided to announce the baby through the art of a pumpkin carving, getting an artist to carefully cut her baby scan into the gourd.

The mum got her two-year-old son Max to pose on top of a pumpkin in order to fool her friends into thinking it was just a cute Halloween picture.

But on closer inspection, they’d find the sneaky baby announcement.

The adorable picture, which she posted on social media on the eve of Halloween, shows little Max in a dinosaur onesie sat on top of the pumpkin.

Katie says everyone’s reactions made it worthwhile even if she wasn’t able to tell them in person.

Katie, from Pontefract, West Yorkshire, said: ‘We came up with the idea because it was Halloween and we wanted to do something interesting and creative.

‘Normally we’d be able to tell all of our friends and family in person – but due to Covid this wasn’t possible.

‘So we thought if we can’t do that we’d do something different.

‘We tried to trick our friends by posting the picture of the pumpkin with our little Max looking cute on it as it was Halloween.

‘But when they looked closer they would spot the pregnancy reveal.’

Katie got her 12-week scan a few weeks ago and was so happy to learn that she was expecting her second child with husband David, 35.

She began to brainstorm ideas on how to tell friends when she saw a Facebook post about carved pumpkins.

She contacted an artist based in Huddersfield, who carved the scan into a pumpkin for just £20.

She said: ‘I was so excited when I found out I was pregnant and I couldn’t wait to tell everyone I love.

‘I’ve never done anything like this before but it felt like something fun we could do.

‘When we got it we were so happy – it looked absolutely amazing.’

Professional carver Christian Russell spent two hours masterfully sculpting the pumpkin for the expecting couple.

Christian said: ‘It was such a lovely idea – I was chuffed to be able to make something so unique.

‘This is a bit of a passion project for me, something I do every year around this time, but it was wonderful to see their reaction to it.

‘It was the most unique request I’ve ever received.’
