Countryfile viewers in tears over 'inspiring' Matt Baker segment: 'What a legend'

Countryfile aired a ramble special for BBC Children In Need this evening as members of the public set off on journeys all across the UK. As part of the special, the presenters introduced a number of emotional stories of children taking part in the ramble. One boy’s determination, in particular, left many Countryfile viewers in tears.

Matt Baker joined Ethan on a record breaking ramble as the 14-year-old lad attempted a six mile routine.

Ethan was born with cerebral palsy and the Countryfile host explained this means Ethan’s brain is unable to send the right messages to his legs.

Even though the young lad is unable to walk unaided, Matt explained he was determined to push himself with his ramble.

Matt told viewers at home: “This is one tenacious teenager. He’s challenged us to take on a six mile bramble.

“Ethan’s an incredible young man. Full of admiration for him. Getting a bit teary! #countryfile,” another added.

A third shared: “#countryfile omg tears in my eyes watching #Ethan.”

Throughout the ramble, Ethan kept pushing his way to the finish line but there were times he really struggled.

To offer inspiration, Matt showed Ethan messages of support from Ethan’s surfing heroes.
