Countdown favourite Rachel Riley praises fans following Corbyn tee-shirt backlash

Rachel Riley has heaped praise on her army of fans following a furious backlash over a Jeremy Corbyn tee-shirt she recently wore.

The Countdown favourite, 33, on Thursday donned a white tee featuring an old pic of Labour boss Corbyn with the phrase: “Jeremy Corbyn is a racist endeavour,” emblazoned on the front.

In the original snap, Corbyn is holding a placard that says: “Defend the right to protest against apartheid. Join this picket”, as he is led away by police following a protest outside South Africa House in 1984.

Sharing the pic on Twitter, Rachel wrote: “I didn’t feel comfortable knowing my workplace was to be full of racists tonight.

“I didn’t feel comfortable knowing my workplace was to be full of racists tonight. I don’t endorse Boris, but I do endorse #NeverCorbyn.

“Shows how counterproductive nasty pile-ons actually are,” she went on.

“I made this promise I intend to keep it. If this is the price to raise awareness then sobeit. Lots of love.”

The tweet went on: “As we edge towards a December general election, a heartfelt promise: I will do everything in my power to try to ensure my baby, Jewish by blood, will not be born under an antisemitic government.
