Corrie's Peter Barlow told he's dying ahead of Christmas storyline

Peter Barlow and his family are facing tragedy this Christmas as the character is told he’s dying of liver failure on Coronation Street.

The troubled former bookies owner recently relapsed and started drinking alcohol again.

Even though Peter, played by Paul Gascoigne, was warned by partner Carla Connor (Alison King), he was unable to resist a sip from a whisky bottle after discovering that his lover has cheated on him.

Yet things take a turn for the worse when Daniel (Rob Mallard) finds his brother in Victoria Gardens, where he is leaning against a wall and vomiting while clutching his stomach.

Peter slumps to the ground as a frantic Daniel rushes over, and spots blood on his clothes before calling for an ambulance.

Peter is taken to hospital and the doctors tell him that they will do their best to try and stop the bleeding, but warn that he may be suffering from liver failure.

He begs Daniel to not tell the rest of the family as he doesn’t want anyone to see him in such a way, but his nephew Adam ends up telling Ken about what has been happening.

A shocked Ken rushes to hospital and is left utterly devastated when Peter tells him that he’s dying.

But Peter leaves Daniel stunned later when he discharges himself and heads over to see Carla.

Initially, Carla is furious at him for disappearing, but is heartbroken when Peter tells her that he was hospitalised with liver failure.

Carla goes on to tell Peter that she loves him and will care for him, no matter what happens.

But Peter is less sure and says that it’s much too late for him…

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV
