Corrie's Julia Goulding talks departure from the show amid cast exodus


The Coronation Street star, who plays Shona Ramsey on the ITV soap, is soon set to take a break from the show after announcing she’s pregnant.

Julia Goulding, 34, talked about going on maternity leave from Corrie while on Lorraine Kelly’s ITV show today.

The Coronation Street cast said her maternity leave would be “written in” by the show.

She also said that show bosses are set to cover up her bump on screen.

The star told Lorraine, 59: “I’m lucky as Shona wears quite baggy clothes anyway.

“She also has her pinny when she’s working in Roy’s too.”

Lorraine then joked: “Yeah, you can have a massive handbag all the time too.”

Julia announced she way pregnant with her first child last month.

The star is expecting a child with husband Ben Silver.

Julia, who joined Corrie in 2016, also said she hopes to be on Corrie for a long time.

Talking about her character, she said: “She’s great, she has so many layers and colours to her.”

Julia’s short departure comes after a string of Corrie stars have left the show recently.

Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt), Kym Marsh (Michelle Connor), Faye Brookes (Kate Connor), Katie McGlynn (Sinead Tinker), and Tristan Gemmill (Robert Preston) are all leaving the soap.

Connie Hyde (Gina Seddon) and Bhavna Limbachia (Rana Habeeb) have also left the show recently, while Brooke Vincent (Sophie Webster) will be going on maternity leave imminently.

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV at 8:30am.

Coronation Street airs tonight on ITV at 7:30pm and 8:30pm.
