Corrie's Emma set for collapse sparking concerns over heredity illness

Emma Brooker is going to shock friends and family when she suddenly collapses, sparking fears that she’s inherited granddad Jim McDonald’s illness.

Hairdresser Emma (Alexandra Mardell) has recently found out she is the biological daughter of Steve McDonald following his romance with her mum, Fiona Middleton.

Corrie fans have watched as Emma has been welcomed into the McDonald family but things are set to take a turn for the worse.

Steve recently discovered he’s Emma’s father

The hairdresser will begin to complain about feeling unwell and also being in pain at work before getting checked out at the medical centre.

However, upon leaving the medical centre the pain becomes too much for her and she collapses.

Cobbles bad boy, Gary finds her unconscious in the street and rushes to fetch help.

Fiona kept Emma a secret from Steve

This wave of illness has begun to spark fears that Emma has inherited Jim’s illness, myotonic dystrophy which will leave her seriously ill.

Speaking to The Sun Online, a source said: “Emma’s not going to understand what’s wrong with her but her dad Steve knows only too well what it could be.

“Jim’s illness skipped a generation with Steve but the possibility of it affecting Emma is almost too much to contemplate.

“It’s going to cause a really harrowing time for the McDonalds if it’s what caused Emma’s collapse.”

Jim was diagnosed in 2014

Jim McDonald was diagnosed with myotonic dystrophy in 2014 and has gone on to suffer serious health issues.

Upon returning to the cobbles, he had Steve and his known relatives tested but the results came back clear.

Sadly, Emma wasn’t tested as they were unaware she existed which means she could have developed the condition.

Coronation Street airs weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV One
