Ms Shenton believes the Government’s actions to support the travel industry, which accounts for roughly 10 percent of the world’s GDP, will be key to the sector’s recovery.
She said: “Those travel companies who are agile and have a good relationship with their staff, suppliers and clients will weather the storm and possibly come out stronger, though it will inevitably be a tough summer.
“Key for the travel industry is whether the Government takes action to relax the Package Travel Regulations which were clearly never designed to deal with a global pandemic.
“If the Government fails to address this issue urgently, they will potentially jeopardise the whole industry.
“Globally the travel industry supports one in ten jobs and accounts for roughly 10 percent of the world’s GDP and is thus crucial to the economy.”
