CORONATION Street star Beverley Callard has revealed she will be on anti-depressants for life.
The actress – who has been bravely open about her mental health troubles – has previously told how she has battled depression for three decades and has found that medication is the only thing that helps her.
She told the Daily Star Sunday: “I’ll have to be medicated forever. I know I will have to take medication for the rest of my life. I am grateful it’s there.”
Beverley, who has played Corrie icon Liz McDonald for 29 years, has previously tried to take her own life but managed to seek help and recover.
But she has also said how when she is in the brink of a depression that she cannot talk about how it affects her.
She added: “It’s really weird, but when you’re in the depths of it you can’t talk about it.
“You can only talk about it when you’ve got better.
“So I wouldn’t be able to discuss anything if I wasn’t well. But once I’ve recovered I can try to champion the cause then to help people going through it.”
The actress has received countless messages from people thanking her for being brave enough to open up about mental illness before it was usual for celebrities to do so.
Earlier this year she took two weeks off from Corrie to recover from a bout of depression and opened up about how the NHS had helped her.
She has just finished a sold out run of shows in play The Thunder Girls in Salford’s Lowry Theatre.
