Coronation Street's Andrew Whyment is 'confirmed' for I'm A Celebrity

Coronation Street star Andrew Whyment has reportedly signed up to join Ant and Dec in the jungle for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here.

The soap actor, 38, is the eighth rumoured contestant ‘confirmed’ to be travelling to Australia in three weeks time.

According to The Sun, producers are ‘really pleased’ with the line-up that has been revealed so far and were ‘chuffed’ when Andrew allegedly agreed to take part.

‘They were chuffed to get Andrew as viewers have watched him on Coronation Street for the best part of two decades, yet know nothing about him away from Kirk,’ a source said.

Andrew has played Corrie favourite Kirk Sutherland since 2000, and had a part in The Royal Family before joining the soap.

He took part in Dancing On Ice in 2012, before being eliminated in the eighth week.

Jennie McAlpine, who plays Andrew’s onscreen ex Fizz Brown, came fourth in 2017’s I’m a Celeb.

And other Coronation Street stars to appear on the show include Antony Cotton (Sean Tully), Nigel Havers (Lewis Archer), Helen Flanagan (Rosie Webster), Craig Charles (Lloyd Mullaney) and, last year, Sair Khan (Alya Nazir).

Andrew will become the 11th Corrie actor to go to the jungle.

Other stars expected to make an appearance on the show include former Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle, EastEnders actress Jacqueline Jossa, rugby star James Haskell, footballer Ian Wright and Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway.

The source added: ‘Producers are really pleased with the line-up so far, with just a couple of faces to unveil.

‘There’s a chance they’ll add a couple more but in previous years they’ve stuck at ten with one or two to follow.’

Radio presenter – and son of Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp – Ronan Kemp is also reportedly set to appear in the jungle alongside Myles Stephenson from ‘X Factor’ winners Rak-Su.

A spokesman for Andrew said: ‘It’s just speculation. We’ll announce our line up for the new series nearer transmission.’

ITV have been approached by MailOnline for comment.

Meanwhile, Kate recently revealed her children Darcey, 13, and William, 10, have urged her to take part in the show, but she finds it ‘completely terrifying’.

She said previously: ‘I think it’s completely terrifying but it’s also a brilliant show to watch, so I don’t know.

‘My kids would love me to do it, I don’t know what that says. People keep saying I’d be good in there and basically what that means is you want to see me tortured.

‘Like really close friends say, “Oh you’d be amazing, I really want you to do it.” And it’s like, “What have I done to you?” Does anybody want to go through that torture, I don’t know?’
