Coronation Street spoilers: Eileen Grimshaw betrayed as exit foiled in devastating twist

Eileen (played by Sue Cleaver) thought she’d found another rogue in Jan (Piotr Baumann) when she discovered he had a connection to the modern slavery ring on Coronation Street, unaware he was an informant for the police.

This week’s instalments of the ITV soap have seen Eileen learn the truth about Jan, but left with another dilemma as he asked her to leave Weatherfield with him as he believes he is in mortal danger.

Upcoming scenes will see Jan shot as the trafficking gang catch up with him, throwing his plans to flee the cobbles in jeopardy.

Jan will live to see another day and after his near death experience, Eileen will agree to leave the cobbles and go into witness protection, but someone much closer to home could be the one to betray her and put a stop to her exit.

The drama picks up following the shooting next week, with Eileen telling her lodger Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) she and Jan are going into witness protection.

However, this means she will have to uproot her life on the cobbles and run away with her lover so they’re out of any danger.

Having been a mother figure to the youngster, Eileen will have to fight off Seb’s pleas for her to stay in Weatherfield.

Wanting to keep her plans a secret, Eileen goes on to tell her loved ones she is going on a two week holiday, with them unaware she is not going to return.

Although many of Eileen’s loved ones fall for her lies, Rovers Return barman Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) isn’t too convinced and it’s not long before he foils her plan.

Knowing Eileen is going to be running away with Jan, Sean pays the wounded police informant who will still be recovering in hospital and sets his betrayal in motion.

Sean tells Jan if he really loves Eileen, he will let her go and not allow her to go on the run with him.

Back on the cobbles, Eileen will bid farewell to Seb as she gets ready to embrace her new life and heads to the hospital to meet with Jan.

Viewers will have to wait and see if Jan is waiting for Eileen or if he has fled the scene after Sean’s betrayal.

Will Eileen be left heartbroken as her chance of a new life with someone she really loves has been snatched away and will she ever forgive Sean for his betrayal?

Speaking about her character’s love life, Eileen star Sue, 55, said in an interview released by the ITV soap: “I would advise her to stay away from someone so obviously dangerous, I don’t think there is any doubt that Jan cares for her but I think she should focus on the fact that she has great friends and a good job and maybe just go for a quieter life.”

Elsewhere in Weatherfield, Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) will be left devastated when she uncovers a horrifying death secret.

Yasmeen is currently taking centre stage in a harrowing abuse plot, with estranged partner Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) belittling her and slowly taking control of every aspect of her life.

Geoff and Yasmeen split in recent episodes as the abuser told his now estranged partner her behaviour was taking a toll on his health.

Becoming more concerned about Geoff’s wellbeing, Yasmeen will be distraught when her own investigations lead her to believe she has cancer, which he won’t try to shut down.

The malicious character will tell Yasmeen he doesn’t have long left to live, with his estranged partner going on to tell his loved ones despite Geoff talking her not to.

After humiliating Yasmeen once more, Geoff will find himself back in her home, but will anyone realise what’s really going on?

Coronation Street continues Friday at 7.30pm on ITV.
