Coronation Street spoilers: Daniel Osbourne set for DARK path in Sinead Tinker plot twist?

Daniel (played by Rob Mallard) has been lapping up the good life on Coronation Street in recent weeks, with Sinead (Katie McGlynn) completing her cervical cancer treatment and the pair focussing their attentions on baby son Bertie.

Upcoming scenes on the ITV soap will see Sinead receive a letter from the hospital, asking her to return so she can have an MRI scan to see if the treatment has worked.

Although the fan favourite will put on a brave face for her family and friends, the news will leave Sinead reeling as she contemplates her fate and whether her husband Daniel will cope if it is bad news.

Viewers will have to keep watching to see if Sinead gets the all clear, but with reports emerging the popular character is set to leave Weatherfield, could it be the mother will get bad news and leave Daniel to bring up Bertie on his own?

Speaking to Metro.co.uk at the British Soap Awards, Daniel Osbourne star Rob Mallard, 27, teased what could be on the agenda for the young father if Sinead does die as a result of the treatment failing.

The actor said: “They’ve got everything they wanted to. They’ve got Sinead doing well, babies born and healthy, family dynamics are staying calm.

“He’s in a good place which is usually at which point soap writers tend to throw a curve ball,” Rob said, before stating what the implications of Sinead’s death could be for Daniel.

“I don’t think he would ever be the same person ever again,” the actor explained, so could Sinead being taken away so cruelly lead the Bistro waiter’s dark side to re-emerge after working so hard to create the perfect family life?

Following the return of Ken Barlow’s (William Roache) youngest son to Weatherfield in 2016, Daniel found himself embroiled in a relationship with Sinead, with the Underworld factory worker becoming pregnant in the later months.

On discovering this information and worrying his son’s future could be in jeopardy, Ken convinced Sinead to have an abortion, which left his son heartbroken and furious with his father for meddling in his life.

Ken was pushed down the stairs after Daniel discovered the betrayal and although he was the character to commit the attempted murder, he tried to frame nephew Adam Barlow (Scott Robertson) as the real culprit.

When Ken started to wrongly believe Daniel had killed his mother Denise Osbourne (Denise Black), the budding journalist showed a darker side when he lashed out at Ken for being absent in his life and taking pity on his son, as the soap stalwart told police he tripped down the stairs.

After a drug overdose and seeking professional help for his issues with his past, Daniel has not shown any signs of letting his darker side re-emerge.

However, if Sinead does succumb to the devastating impact of the cervical cancer, could he end up abandoning his own son and restart a life on a darker path as he blames his loved ones as a reaction to his grief?

It has not been confirmed if actress Katie McGlynn will be leaving the soap in the future, but a Coronation Street spokesperson said: “Katie is fully committed to playing out the extremely important storyline she is currently portraying on screen.”

The statement continued: “This story still has a long way to go. Any speculation threatens to undermine the storyline for viewers.”

As Sinead’s story continues, it seems Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) could be seeking revenge on Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill) when the love-torn couple reunite next week.

Having overheard her ex say his love for her is stronger than his need for a baby, Michelle will ask Robert if they can give their relationship another shot, to which he will accept.

Robert will quickly make an excuse to leave after the celebratory moment as Michelle goes on to spread the good news and now actress Kym Marsh, 42, has teased what could happen if Robert has been seeing another woman.

The actress said: “She’s been there with Steve and she wouldn’t put up with it again, Robert would be a goner.”

Coronation Street continues Monday at 7.30pm on ITV.
