Coronation Street spoilers: Carla Connor and Peter to escape justice in Rana death twist?

Carla Connor (played by Alison King) is on the brink of a mental breakdown and menacing messages from a foe pretending to be Rana Habeeb (Bhavna Limbachia) has only added to her troubles.

The Underworld factory boss has been accused of murdering the nurse, who died when the faulty roof of the knicker factory collapsed on her in Coronation Street.

On top of that, her sister Kate Connor (Faye Brookes) has disowned her and she is facing a lengthy prison sentence if police find her responsible for the death of her sibling’s fiancée.

Fans of the long-running ITV soap finally discovered Alya Nazir (Saira Khan) was behind the nasty text messages, as she revealed all to Kate on Wednesday’s show.

Despite Alya’s confession, the damage had already been done as Carla convinced herself Rana had been taunting her from beyond the grave.

Final scenes from the dramatic episode saw Carla battling with voices in her head and it looked like she would leave the cobbles.

She is set to flee Weatherfield and take shelter in an abandoned building later this year, as recent spoiler images showed Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) attempting to rescue her.

Will Peter decide to stay with Carla, marking a permanent exit for the iconic characters?

Carla’s devastating predicament has not only caused a wedge between her and her sister, but also with Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) and Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill).

Michelle has not forgiven her estranged husband for revealing the businessman failed to repair the roof before it crushed Rana.

She is due to leave town after actress Kym Marsh announced she was taking a break from the series after serving 13 years on the show.

Confirming the news in February, Kym told The Sun: “It’s been an incredibly difficult decision but it feels like the right time.

“When I was lucky enough to be offered four episodes I could never in my wildest dreams have thought I’d be here 13 years later.”

However, the TV star insisted she would return to the series and reprise her role as the feisty businesswoman.

“This isn’t the last you’ve heard of Michelle Connor, she’ll be back!” she exclaimed.

“I can’t wait to see what the writers have in store for the future.”

Dev Alahan actor Jimmi Harkishin will also take a brief break from the soap and is scheduled to have two months off.

It comes as the soap star marks 20 years since he first appeared in Coronation Street on November, 10, 1999.

“Corrie bosses have very kindly let me have time off for two months to celebrate my 20th year, which I am very grateful for, so I am going to visit China and Japan,” he told messengernewspapers.co.uk.

Coronation Street continues Friday on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
