She announced that she wanted to divorce Norris so that she can be with Jan but her fling backfired.

In May 3rd’s episode Mary, played by Patti Claire, pays her husband a visit with Tracy Barlow joining her for support.

But the pair are surprised to find the door of number 3 open, with Freda Burgess (Ali Briggs) inside.

Freda appears very comfortable at Norris’ place as she pours the visitors a cup of tea and reveals that the shopkeeper has left Weatherfield for the time being and headed off on a silent retreat.

In more disappointing news, she says that Norris is “well” and has “decided to sell the house” as he “starts a new life” elsewhere.

Tracy whispers to Mary: “Norris, silent? That doesn’t sound like Norris.”

Stunned at her response, Mary asks Freda: “Is he planning on coming  back?

“If any of this is true he definitely would have spoken to me about it. I’m his wife.”

Looking very smug, Freda replies: “(A wife) who wants a divorce.”

Freda then ushers them out of the house as she says that she has to “tidy up for the estate agent”.

It comes after Mary was charmed by Jan when he popped into the florist and bought a bouquet.

He handed it to Mary and told her he’s truly sorry for causing her injury the previous week.

Mary warmed to him and later, at the Rovers, there was some confusion about who Jan’s had his eye on – Mary, Moira or Eileen.

Convinced it’s her, Mary described a crazy dream she had to Tracy and told her she thinks it’s a sign that she and Jan should be together.

Acting on her dream Mary told Jan that she’d like to take him up on his offer of going for a drink with him.

Over their drink Jan did his best to put Mary off and told her that the love of his life was killed by a cattle truck in Poland.

But his story spinning has the opposite effect and Mary started gazing at him, dreamy eyed.

Mary is excited about her blossoming relationship with Jan and told Tracy that she wants to divorce Norris so she can be with him.

Mary finally realised the truth and told Jan that she never wanted to see him again.

Norris is going to cause more woes when he returns to Coronation Street and announces that he is engaged to Emily Bishop’s (Eileen Derbyshire) niece Freda.
