Coronation Street ‘s 2019 Christmas Day saw tragedy of the highest level, with two deaths and a married couple potentially torn apart forever by another gunshot wound.
Shona Ramsey (Julia Goulding) ended up being shot in the crossfire by gunman Derek Milligan (Craige Els), who died after falling from the Winter Wonderland helter skelter.
But Shona, who had been in a stable condition, suddenly deteriorated and slipped into a coma, with husband David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) being warned he should prepare for the worst.
Corrie viewers are desperate for some positivity in the soap though, starting with Shona’s eventual recovery.
One tweeted: “Corrie turning into EastEnders, sort it out scriptwriters. We don’t want this depressing s****.”
Speaking specifically of Shona, another wrote: “Catching up on Corrie and I really hope Shona recovers from this. I really liked her and David together, and I don’t think David will be able to handle losing her.”
A David fan said: “Don’t you dare put David through the death of a wife again! Bless him.”
Another viewer begged: “Come on Corrie please don’t kill Shona off!”
And someone else added: “I’m so sad about Shona. Poor David. Please don’t let her die.”
The gun rampage happened because of Gary, as he took Derek hostage and got him seriously riled up.
The drunk shooter then found a gun that was in Gary’s antiques shop, so viewers are hoping to see the back of the new Weatherfield villain soon.
One said: “When is Corrie gonna give what the people want and kill off Gary Windass?”
Another wrote: “I hope that Gary is sent down for everything he’s done.”
A third tweeted: “Gary is the reason Shona is brain dead and that Robert is dead. He drove that maniac to insanity. He can’t be redeemed. He needs to go!”
Showing they meant business, they added the hashtag “get Gary out”.
Someone else wondered: “When are you gonna sort out that evil Gary Windass he’s one nasty piece of work.”
And another added: “Dear Mr or Mrs Coronation Street, please for the love of all things holy kill off Gary Windass as he’s not the most menacing gangster is he?
“In fact he’s laughable, and next Christmas let’s have it a bit more merry!”
Meanwhile, one joker said: “The only storyline I’d like to see is Ali going to get a haircut! What is happening to his barnet?”
Coronation Street continues tonight at 7.30pm on ITV
