Coronation Street abuser Geoff 'to brutally attack Yasmeen' in coronavirus twist

Coronation Street villain Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) looks set to take his abuse of wife Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) to the next level.

Coronation Street spoilers have revealed that Geoff will be left furious when Yasmeen tries to leave for Spain without him after discovering he faked a heart attack.

He also threatens her granddaughter Alya, shocking Yasmeen with his anger, and she also discovers that he has been using escorts behind her back.

As Geoff admits he did lie, Yasmeen says she is going to Spain without him and tries to get out of the house, but he will ominously stop her from leaving.

Whilst the soap has already made changes to the filming and schedule, it may be that they change the storylines to include coronavirus, which will force the residents of Weatherfield to stay indoors.

Yasmeen will try to leave her husband, but he stops her from getting out of the house

This could prove to be fatal for Yasmeen, as she will have no escape from her abuser, who is becoming increasingly erratic as the story progresses.

Shanika Varga, a Solicitor at Stowe Family Law LLP, said to Daily Star Online: “With more and more people self-isolating due to Coronavirus, we can sadly expect to see a huge increase in domestic abuse incidents.

“Lots of people – whether they realise it or not – are in abusive relationships, and abusers will typically manipulate any situation to take advantage of their perceived position of power.”

Could Geoff start getting violent with his wife as they self-isolate?

She added: “From a physical standpoint being stuck in a house together for two weeks or longer means the risk of a situation becoming violent is much higher. There are cases where abusers hold back or are more careful about the physical harm they cause due to concerns that someone might see marks on their victims’ bodies.

“However, knowing that their victim won’t be going out and seeing people for potentially weeks on end, this may no longer be a concern because any marks would have time to disappear.”

She continued: “Practically speaking coming up with contingency plans during this difficult period is more important than ever. If you find yourself in a life-threatening situation, lock yourself in a safe space (for example, the bathroom), and call 999.

“Where possible and provided it doesn’t raise suspicion, having a bag ready with essentials such as your passport, clothes, money and a phone charger is a good idea so that you can grab the bag and go if the situation escalates.”

Is Yasmeen’s life going to be in danger as coronavirus arrives in Weatherfield?

Let’s hope Alya, who has worked out that her grandmother is being abused, can work out a way to save her.

Corrie continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on ITV.
