Cops probing anti-Semitism within Labour Party submit evidence to the CPS

COPS probing anti-Semitism within the Labour Party have submitted an evidential file to the CPS, The Sun can reveal.

The development comes as Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn faces repeated claims of anti-Semitism within his party – and failing to get a grip on it.

The Met investigation was launched last November after Met Commissioner Cressida Dick was given evidence of anti-Semitic social media posts during an interview on LBC Radio.

Details of 45 cases of alleged anti-Semitism were outlined in the files.

One claim involved a party member who posted a vile message on Facebook saying a Jewish Labour MP was going to get a “good kicking”.

Another allegation related to threats being made to throw two MPs off the top of a building.

Three Labour members who were arrested over the allegations in March were later kicked out of the party.

Detectives have now given a dossier to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in relation to five of the six cases.

Prosecutors are considering whether to charge, release or order police to gather more evidence before making a final decision.

Police have raided properties in Birmingham, London, Kent and Yorkshire during the investigation.

The ex-members arrested in March were two men in their 50s and a woman in her 70s.

A man in his 40s was arrested on May 1 after police raided an address in Newham, East London, while another man in his 60s was questioned under caution on July 9.

They have all been interviewed on suspicion of publishing or distributing material likely to stir up racial hatred.

Detectives handed over evidence in these cases to the CPS on September 27, the Met said.

A force spokeswoman added: “The MPS will not comment further on the details of our investigation.”

A CPS spokesman said: “We have received a file of evidence from the Metropolitan Police in relation to alleged anti-Semitic hate crimes. We are considering the material to see if more information is needed from the police before we begin considering charging decisions.”

Detectives quizzed another man in his 60s under caution on July 10 following a swoop on a property in Bradford, West Yorks.

He was released under investigation and enquiries continue into his case.

A spokesman said: “There is no Met Police investigation into anti-Semitism in the Labour Party.”
