Copa Libertadores match descends into chaos after mass brawl sees EIGHT players sent off

The Copa Libertadores game between Gremio and Internacional descended into absolute chaos on Thursday night after a horrific mass brawl ended in eight players receiving red cards. The game ended 0-0, before four players from each team saw red.

Pepe, Luciano do Rocha Neves, Caio Henrique Oliviera Silva and Paulo Miranda all received red cards for Gremio, while Edenilson, Moises Roberto Barbosa, Victor Cuesta and Bruno Conceicao Praxades were all dismissed for Internacional.

The game was in its dying moments, with both sides battling for a decisive winning goal.

However, after an incident on the touchline, all hell broke loose between both sets of players.

Substitutes and players alike both rushed over to the incident as things turned ugly.

Players were seen kicking, punching and pushing each other as a brutal brawl broke out.

At one point there were three different sections of fighting breaking out on the pitch as the referee failed to get a hold of things.

Team officials had to come onto the pitch to try and calm things down, but the brawl went on for over a minute before eventually being broken up.

When the game eventually restarted, neither side had any luck breaking the deadlock as the match ended 0-0.

The Copa Libertadores will now be suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus.

Gremio and Internacional are both likely to receive heavy sanctions as a result of the brawl, which even saw Gremio boss Renato Gaucho sprint onto the pitch to split things up.

The eight red cards broke a tournament record for the most red cards ever seen in a single match in the history of the competition.

It was the second time in straight days that controversy has surrounded the tournament, after Emmanuel Adebayor was sent off for a brutal karate-style kick.
