Cool stay of the week: a river cabin and lodge in the Aberdeenshire woodland

Scotland is an ideal destination for every season, and this week’s Cool Stay of the Week is perfect for a cosy winter escape as well as a lazy summer retreat.

Immersed in a remote Scottish woodland, 40 minutes from Aberdeen by car, North Lodge is a semi-detached home which has been lovingly renovated into a charming abode.

The roaring open fire is a must come winter while the kitchen offers up al fresco dining in the summer. Inside you’ll find two king-size bedrooms and a set of twin singles in the other room.

A private path from the lodge leads to the River Cabin, which occupies a slanted wooded riverbank with exquisite views of the surrounding area. The cabin comes with a barbecue and a Scandinavian-style wood-fired hot tub by the cabin for you to enjoy while listening to the calming sounds of the flowing river next door.

The perfect antidote to busy city life, you probably won’t want to leave the lodge once there but if you want to explore there are plenty of walking paths to follow through the woodland and you can try your hand at trout fishing and canoeing or visit the nearby towns of Aboyne, Balmoral and Ballater.

Where? Banchory, Scotland

Price: £895 to £1195 per week
