Cool stay of the week: a ‘balancing’ barn in the Suffolk countryside

Located in six acres of private gardens, this week’s Cool Stay of the Week is a marvel of Dutch architecture.

As the name suggests, part of the Balancing Barn is suspended above ground, with a swing dangling from the end. Clad in reflective steel tiles, this house is 30m long and the design has been carefully considered.

Located on the edge of a peaceful nature reserve near Southwold, this four-bedroom home is just as creative on the inside as the outside. At one end, guests will find an exquisite kitchen and dining room with direct access to the grounds, which features modern appliances and a contemporary design-led style.

At the opposite end of the property, the suspended living room is bathed in natural light and overlooks the property’s garden. Guests will also find a library filled with books as well and a wood burner, music system and smart TV in the living room.

Each of the four bedrooms comes with its own ensuite and two of the rooms have an in-room bath tub. Egyptian cotton sheets, hypo-allergenic pillows and duvets and lush toiletries are ever present here and two of the rooms can be configured into twin beds.

The outside terrace is perfect for al fresco dining in the warmer months and there is also a fire pit for barbeques. On arrival, guests can also look forward to a welcome pack with essentials like tea, coffee, milk and bread.
