Constellation pumpkins are the magical trend people are trying this Halloween

Halloween is typically a time associated with all things scary.

But some people just aren’t into horror, so they decide to celebrate in a much less gory way.

From carving Disney characters into their pumpkins, to stringing up cute ghost garlands, there are many ways you can mark the occasion without getting too spooky.

And one big trend for this year that’s taking off on Instagram is constellation pumpkins – and they’re not very tricky to make yourself at home.

For those looking to decorate their house with something a bit more chic than your average smiley-faced pumpkin, this could be the thing for you.

The pumpkins are painted a dark colour to look like the night sky and constellation patterns are cut out.

The light inside then shines through the ‘stars’ creating a very cool-looking effect.

If you can’t be bothered to make your own, or would like a more permanent version, a US company called Grandin Road are selling a faux version.

These cost £33.62 for a small pumpkin and £68.11 for a large one, plus you’ll have to be prepared to pay a hefty shipping fee if you’re ordering to the UK.

Or you can do a DIY version for a much cheaper price this Halloween, according to Martha Stewart.

Martha has shared a handy guide for making one on her website.

She says: “Hollow out a pumpkin from below. Punch holes in the shapes of constellations with a drill, and connect the dots with a gouge. (If you want to be more exacting, print out a template and tape on the formations you want.)”

She added: “We brightened the night by placing the individual bulbs of an LED strand in each hole. For a faster finish, use a single battery-powered candle to light the way.”
