Conor McGregor is making the UFC wait on confirming his rematch with Dustin Poirier, but Dana White is confident the fight will go ahead as planned in January.

McGregor and Poirier are expected to meet for the second time in the UFC, this time on 23 January at lightweight after their 2014 bout at featherweight, which the Irishman won in the first round.

Both fighters have been openly speaking about the contest, a date has been set aside and Poirier has signed his side of the agreement.

White admits that McGregor has been slow to put his signature on a bout agreement, but is not concerned by his tardiness, believing there will be no hitch in putting the fight together.

‘I don’t know (if McGregor signed a bout agreement yet),’ White told ESPN.

‘Listen, I’m not worried about it. Conor McGregor has never said, “Listen I want to fight,” gone out the way that he’s gone out, talked about it.

‘We got him his own date. Conor McGregor’s going to show up and fight. I’m not worried about his bout agreement, but I don’t know if it’s been signed. I’m assuming it has, but it wasn’t the other day when I texted, the fight wasn’t done yet.’

McGregor is certainly planning to fight Poirier for the second time, posting on Instagram earlier this week: ‘I am very grateful to be about to return and get to do what I love again.

‘I look forward to the fresh test Dustin will bring since our first bout, while also showcasing my own incredibly deep cache of weaponry. Whatever tool is needed on the night will be pulled from the duffel.

‘I am also really excited about aiding Dustins charity “The Good Fight Foundation”, which through the donation, will build a gym/premise for disadvantaged youth in his childhood hometown. I truly love this, and pledge to match the donation on a premise in my own childhood hometown!

‘Both spots with an ode to the upcoming bout. Excellent stuff!’
