CONDE Nast Traveller has revealed the top destinations to travel to in 2020.
Surprisingly, two places in the UK make the list – Plymouth and Galway.

With Plymouth celebrating 400 years since the launch of the Mayflower and Galway being the 2020 European Capital of Culture, it is a great time to visit them both next year.
Other locations in Europe on the top list include Paris in France, thanks to a number of new hotel openings such as Soho House, and Egadi Islands in Sicily, which remain remarkably untouched by tourists.
With the 2020 Olympics also taking place next year, there are a number of great places to add to the bucket list.
We reveal the top ten places you should head to, according to the travel magazine.
1. Portland, Maine, US

The harbour city of Maine is not to be confused with Portland in Oregon, despite both being popular locations for foodies.
This US city has an abundance of cuisines to choose from, such as locally caught seafood and Mexican tacos.
Newspaper fans can stay at The Press Hotel – where the Portland Press Herald was once headquartered.
2. Dakar, Senegal

Located in West Africa, Dakar offers a combination of African and French architecture and culture.
Travellers can easily travel to the city thanks to flights with TAP Air and Iberia.
With the 30th Fashion Week next year in June, as well as the first design hotel of the city, Bantu Wax, the politically stable city is one to visit in 2020.
3. Plymouth, UK

Plymouth was voted “one to watch” thanks to the influx of famous chefs at the Barbican including Marco Pierre White and Mitch Tonks.
The city in Devon is also celebrating 400 years since the Mayflower set sail from Plymouth to the US, with a number of celebrations planned throughout the year.
With some of the largest concentrations of cobbled streets in Britain, be sure to wear your comfortable walking shoes.
4. Salvador, Brazil

Brazil hit the headlines earlier this year following the Amazon fires, although experts claimed that tourism is as big as ever.
The capital Bahia recently launched a new metro line from the airport to the city centre, making it easier for visitors.
Art Deco fans will also enjoy the rich history and architecture of Salvador.
5. Paris, France

While one of the most popular cities in the world, Paris is one to add to the bucket list next year thanks to a number of new hotels opening in the city.
A new Soho House will open in 2020 along with the Bulgari Hotel Paris.
Modern art fans can also head to the new Bourse de Commerce, designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando.
6. Egadi Islands, Sicily

The five islands of Egadi in Sicily are special for their own reasons, and not just because they remain relatively untouched by tourists.
Favignana, shaped like a butterfly, is the largest and is easily biked around, while Levanzo, the smallest, is great for scuba divers thanks to the Roman shipwreck remains.
The other three have their own stories – Marettimo was once considered to be the home of Odysseus.
7. Siargao, Philippines

Siargao is Bali before the tourists came, according to experts.
Just one tenth of the size, surfers flock to try the famous Cloud 9 barrelling wave on the shores.
There are a number of eco-hotels and establishments on the main island as well as the nearby islets.
8. Kyoto, Japan

Brits will be flocking to Japan next year thanks to the 2020 Olympics.
The games have meant that a number of new hotels are opening in the capital.
But it’s worth detouring to Kyoto, which offers authentic Japanese experiences including onsen bathing and ryokan-inspired homes.
9. Galway, Ireland

Galway is also having a moment next year having been voted 2020’s European Capital of Culture.
The Irish west-coast city will host numerous events featuring high-profile celebrities, including Margaret Atwood on the International Women’s Day march.
The world’s longest oyster festival, having run for 65 years, will take place later in the year.
10. Kangaroo Island, Australia

Just 70 miles from South Australia, Kangaroo Island is home to its own sub-species of the animal it is named after.
A third of the island is protected due to the local wildlife.
Eco-warriors will be able to reduce their cabin footprint thanks to new eco-tents and hotels opening next year.
London was named one of the best destinations in the world by TripAdvisor, thanks to citing the royal wedding as a reason behind it.
