Colin Firth has split from wife Livia Giuggioli, after 22 years of marriage.

The Love Actually star’s rep confirmed the news in a statement to Metro.co.uk, which read: ‘Colin and Livia Firth have separated.

‘They maintain a close friendship and remain united in their love for their children.

‘They kindly ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.’

Colin, 59, met film producer Livia, 50, on the set of BBC drama Nostromo in 1996, after his relationship with Meg Tilly broke down.

The pair – who share sons Matteo and Luca together – tied the knot a year later, and split their time between London and Umbria, Italy.

The former couple hit a rough patch recently after it was revealed Livia had a relationship with journalist Marco Brancaccia, during a brief split.

‘A few years ago Colin and Livia privately made the decision to separate,’ a spokesperson for the couple told E! News last March.

‘During that time Livia briefly became involved with former friend Mr Brancaccia.

‘The Firths have since reunited.

‘Subsequently, Mr Brancaccia carried out a frightening campaign of harassment over several months, much of which is documented.

‘As a consequence of his stalking, threats and refusal to desist, the legal complaint was lodged with the Italian authorities.’

Marco denied claims he stalked Livia, telling the Sun he has ‘done absolutely nothing wrong’.

Colin previously dated Valmont co-star Meg Tilly, in 1989, with whom he shares son Will.

They moved to Canada together for a brief stint, before ending the relationship in 1994.
