Coldplay have beaten Robbie Williams to number one, with the pair battling it out after releasing their albums on the same day.

Congrats guys!

The band’s album Everyday Life is now the third fastest-selling record of the year after triumphing over Robbie’s The Christmas Present.

It sits just behind Ed Sheeran’s No.6 Collaborations Project and Lewis Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent with 81,000 chart sales, according to the Official Charts Company.

Chris Martin and co have also continued their unbroken streak of number one albums, after their debut Parachutes in 2000, which is definitely no easy feat.

However, Robbie’s definitely not done too badly with his first ever Christmas album, racking up 67,000 chart sales.

And he’s broken his own bizarre record, claiming the fastest-selling cassette release in almost two decades – in the year of our lord 2019 – selling almost 10,000 copies.

Who’d have thought?

Coldplay’s new album has seen them put on a cracking show at the Natural History Museum, after they spoke out about hoping for future tours to be carbon neutral.

Meanwhile, their new track Champion Of The World pays tribute to fellow musician Scott Hutchison after his tragic death.

The musician, who inspired Coldplay frontman Chris Martin with his track Los Angeles Be Kind, sadly took his own life back in May 2018 after struggling with depression and anxiety.

Chris explained that the new song is inspired by the track, which Scott wrote as part of his solo music project Owl John.

‘Scott had a song called Los Angeles Be Kind, which I love,’ Chris said. ‘When I first heard it, I thought it was going to go one way – but it went another. Anyway Champion Of The World is the song that came from following the other path, and that’s why Scott is a co-writer on this song.

‘Today is also his birthday. So happy birthday Scott and thank you for your beautiful music, wherever you are.’
