ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) — A new business in Rochester is allowing kids to combine their love of video games with learning coding.
Code Ninjas opened its doors Saturday and it was filled with kids who were excited to play video games. The twist is, instead of just playing the games, they learned how the games they love are created.
Modeled after ninja training, the program is taught by high school students known as senseis. The kids will go from a white belt to a black belt the more they learn.
The owner of Code Ninja, Norma Flores-Ibarra, said this way of learning builds confidence and allows kids to learn more about computer programming.
“We get to not just play with video games, but actually build, create them. We take kids from being just consumers of video games to actually creating the video games and making something new. We give room for their creativity they learn to program while they are doing it,” Flores-Ibarra said.
The building is open Monday through Saturday, and kids ages 7-14 can come and learn for two hours a week.
