The Co-op is to open seven stores in Scotland this month November as part of a £4.4million investment creating 60 jobs.
The new shops are in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis (£735,000) and Stirling (£680,000) on 15 November; Edinburgh (£640,000) on 22 November; and Galston, East Ayrshire (£645,000), Barrachnie in the east end of Glasgow (£600,000), Wemyss Bay, Inverclyde (£540,000) and Forres, Moray (£560,000) on 29 November.
Divisional managing director Derek Furnival said: “Our sustained investment in Scotland is indicative of the long and proud history we have here and we’re delighted to be able to open yet more stores in such a diverse range of locations.
“With over 360 Co-ops in Scotland – that’s one in every postal area – which together employ around 6,000 colleagues, we are able to give our customers and members the opportunity to buy what they want, when they want it, in great looking stores that also give back to the local community.”
The New Co-ops will run on 100% renewable electricity and will sell 5p compostable carrier bags which can be used as food waste caddy liners. Co-op members receive a 5% reward buying own-branded products, and the Co-op donates a further 1% to local good causes.
