‘Clueless’ reunion: Cast praises late co-star Brittany Murphy as ‘ridiculously talented’

As if cast members of “Clueless” could reunite and not speak of co-star Brittany Murphy.

The actress, who starred in films like “Just Married” and “Uptown Girls,” died in 2009 at age 32 after collapsing in her Hollywood Hills home. The Los Angeles Coroner’s office later determined that her death was caused by pneumonia and anemia.

“Clueless” actors Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd, Donald Faison and Breckin Meyer all shared memories about working alongside Murphy, who played Tai Frasier, Saturday at C2E2, the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo.

Silverstone, who played protagonist Cher Horowitz in the 1995 comedy, called Murphy “lovely to work with” and shared a story about watching her co-star’s audition for Tai, the “tragically unhip” classmate she decides to adopt and makeover.

“I remember just being blown away by what she did in that room and then thinking I had to tell Amy (Heckerling, the movie’s writer/director) just in case she didn’t know that Brittany Murphy was the one that had to play the part,” she recalled.

Silverstone could even name her favorite line from Tai: “”I love when she says, ‘You’re a virgin who can’t drive. It’s just one of my favorite moments of the whole movie.”

Paul Rudd, whose character Josh was pursued by both Tai and Cher, said of Murphy, “She was just always so smiley and sweet.”

“Scrubs” star Donald Faison, who played Dion’s boyfriend Murray in the film, praised her many talents: “She could sing, she could dance …”

Meyer, who played Travis, a skateboarder who ended up with Tai at the end of the film, called his late co-star “ridiculously talented.”

He cited her range, marveling, “Like, you see Tai (Murphy’s character in ‘Clueless,’ and then you watch ‘8 Mile,’ and you’re like, ‘That’s the same person?’ “

Meyer, who now plays a district attorney on the ABC legal drama “The Fix,” also reminded fans of her voice work as Luanne Platter, Hank’s ditzy niece on “King of the Hill,’ calling her “so incredibly talented.”
