Clue remake in development with Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds

Two corpses, everything’s fine. Jason Bateman of Arrested Development is in early talks to direct a live-action Clue remake for Fox/Disney, according to Deadline. Bateman may also star in the film alongside Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool). The project was first announced in early 2018. The new movie is not connected to the 1985 Paramount version directed by Jonathan Lynn.

Bateman, who won a directing Emmy for the Ozark episode “Reparations,” will develop the script with Reynolds. When the project was first announced, the film was based on a screenplay written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers of the first Deadpool movie. Bateman recently began production on Ozark season 3, which will include two episodes he will direct as well as reprise his role as drug cartel financial advisor Marty Byrde. Bateman will also direct the first two episodes of HBO’s The Outsider. He also directed the 2013 spelling bee comedy Bad Words, and The Family Fang from 2015.

Reynolds’ Maximum Effort production company will produce the film along with Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures.

Hasbro’s Cluedo – known as Clue in North America – isn’t the only board game which has been turned into a feature-length movie: lest we forget 2012’s Battleship and the Oujia franchise. The table is also being set for a Monopoly movie, which will star Kevin Hart.

The board game Cluedo was created by Anthony E. Pratt in Birmingham in 1949. It is a murder-mystery contest to solve which one of six suspects did the killing, where the crime took place, and what weapon was used in the murder. The 1985 adaptation starred Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd, Madeline Kahn, Martin Mull, Eileen Brennan, Michael McKean, and Lesley Ann Warren. To further the mystery, the film was shot with three different endings, each of which had a different killer.

There is no Clue release date yet, but we’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
