The cleaning-obsessed mum calls it the five minute challenge and demonstrated the method on her Instagram.

She says to pick three rooms of the house each time, set the timer for five minutes and within just 15 minutes you would have thoroughly cleaned multiple areas of your home.

We get it, some rooms and areas will take longer than others, but if you do this regularly enough, you’ll be surprised just how much you can get done when you’re forced to do it in a hurry – and you’ll be able to stay on top of it too.

Cleaning expert Lynsey, showed how she cleaned her kitchen, bedroom and lounge by doing the timed challenge – and it’s great for busy mums.

In her kitchen she was able to put away the dishes, wipe over benches and clear the sink, and the same amount of time allowed her wipe over all surfaces in her bedroom and lounge, as well as tidy cushions and furnishings.

Lysney explained that she developed the method when her twins were young, and she was forced to come up with a time-saving way to do the chores between feeds.

Dubbing it a “game changer”, she said: “It’s always worked for me and it’s how I got through. Pick three rooms, and set the timer on the oven or use your phone and just see how much you can do it that time.”

She does say, however, that if five minutes per room seems almost impossible, then pick a time frame that works for you and your schedule and stick to it.

She says: “I think if you’re working against the clock it puts you in a completely different mindset and makes you work in a really different way.”
