If you’ve got a busy household with small children and pets, spills are inevitable and thankfully it can be wiped away quickly with the help of a mop.
But a professional cleaner has claimed many of us make the same mistake when it comes to cleaning the floor, and it could actually be making your floor dirtier.
TikTok account TheBigCleanCo has racked up millions of views sharing videos of cleaning tips and tricks to tackle every room in the house.
In a recent video, she says many of us mop the floor side to side, which she says acts to push dirt into the grains of the wood and into the joins which builds up over time.
She explained: “When it comes to life, I prefer people who go against the grain. But when it comes to cleaning, I don’t want to see anybody going against the grain.
“When you do it that way you get dirt and particles stuck in the crevices, but when you go with the grain you get a nice clean shine.”
The clip has been viewed more than 230,000 times, as one person commented to say: “Yeaaah, my mum always taught me when mopping that type of floor to always follow the lines.”
And another said: “Oooh that’s why my floor is like that!”
Previously, a video posted to the account went viral after revealing a ‘hidden compartment’ in toasters making them easy to clean – and plenty of people have admitted they never knew it existed.
The video, which has been viewed more than two million times, shows the tray under the toaster that collects all the crumbs being removed, before being emptied and slotted back into place.
Bizarrely, it blew a lot of people’s minds, as one commented to say: “There’s a TRAY?!?!?!?” You can see the video here.
