Claudia Winkleman: ‘It doesn’t work’ Strictly host talks 'breaking habits' with husband


Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman, 47, was joined on her Sunday broadcast last week by BBC One’s resident medical expert Dr Radha who shared her tips for people keeping their New Year’s Resolutions going. The TV personality admitted this is something that she does tend to struggle.

Claudia quizzed the expert, saying: “How do you break a habit? I spent every morning for the whole of December getting up, having toast and then putting brandy butter on it.

“Then cutting it into a triangle. How do you stop doing that? It doesn’t really work for me on January 1st. I’m just going to continue.”

Dr Radha admitted January can be a difficult month for most people because its cold winter months.

She replied: “January is a really hard month to stop breaking habits because it’s dark, we’re tired.

“We stress out about the idea of going back to work. It’s not a great month to start. So I would say choose your month of when you want to break your habit.”

The expert added: “You don’t necessarily have to go with January because it is the darkest time. Having said that some people find it quite useful. They find it a perfect time to reset and think about what they want to change.”

The Strictly host made a candid admission about her eating habits with her husband Kris Thykier and revealed the couple tied to “chuck” loads of different foods together for their evening meal.

Claudia explained: “Me and my husband had supper last night. And normally we have toast on top of pasta, on top of chocolate or whatever. I just go, ‘Yes babe, chuck that in. Oh, two kinds of potatoes, brilliant.’”

Claudia has since gone on to become a staunch campaigner for the safety and regulations around the materials used in children’s fancy dress costumes.

Speaking to Times magazine, the BBC favourite credited child and adolescent clinical psychologist Tanya Bryon as one of the first people to have contacted her after the accident.

Claudia told the publication: “I just knew I would need Tanya. I did [need her] and she put me back together again, let’s just say that.

“I am incredibly lucky that I happen to have an incredible friend who happens to be in my eyes the world’s best clinical psychologist and I was facing something that felt difficult.”

She continued: “I don’t want to use big words because I have to be respectful to [my daughter] and the rest of my family, but Tanya genuinely, well, she saved me.”

Claudia has been married to husband Kris Thykier since 2000 and the couple share three children together, Matilda, Jake and Arthur.

In a column for The Times Luxx magazine, she spoke out about knowing her husband is “the one” for her.

She said: “It’s like when you think back to the first kiss with your first true love.

“Sure, you’d snogged Nigel in the Swiss Cottage Odeon stairwell (or this might just be me) and had a fiddle with Rupert at a Gatecrasher ball.”
