Claudia Schiffer says things got so ‘intense’ back in her day as a supermodel that she had to have security guarding her underwear.

One of the fashion elite, Claudia, 49, shot to fame on the runway back in the 90s with supermodels Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford and Helena Christensen.

She likens the height of her fashion fame to being a ‘rock star’ in a new interview for ELLE UK and said: ‘You couldn’t get to your car unless a path was carved for you.

‘People would cut holes in the fashion tents and try to take pictures of us, we had security at every fashion show.’

And that included security to guard her underwear. No kidding.

‘When I was out on the runway I’d come back and constantly my underwear would be gone,’ Claudia revealed. ‘My bra, my knickers… gone!’

Here’s hoping she had spares.

Being one of the models of the moment also brought with it huge nerves before every show and Claudia recalls times when she’d have to compromise working with somebody who ‘wasn’t so great’ and would exercise their power in the industry, just because they took good photographs.

‘Sometimes they are not great people, but at the same time the photos are really great and sometimes you make compromises, that’s life,’ she said.

In fact, Claudia explains that she’s seen a lot of ‘bullying’ in the modelling world and would make ‘mental notes’ of who she did and didn’t want to work with.

Decades on and she’s proving she’s still got it, as she flaunts her modelling credentials on the front cover of ELLE UK’s new issue in a series of pared back and black and white snaps.

Claudia made her catwalk return not too long ago, as she joined the 90s elite, or the Golden Girls as they’re known, back on the runway for the Versace show at Milan Fashion Week in 2017.

It saw Claudia join forces with Naomi, Cindy, Helen and Carla Bruni once more in a moment that screamed fashion week goals.

Speaking to Vanity Fair the morning after the star-studded show, Claudia said: ‘We have that incredible bond because of everything that we experienced together.

‘So when you see each other it’s like a high-school reunion. It’s almost as if no time has passed.’
