Claridge’s 2019 Christmas Tree to be designed by Christian Louboutin

Claridge’s Christmas tree will this year be desiged by Christian Louboutin.

The legendary shoe designer, who is a long time guest and friend of the Mayfair hotel, will unveil his creation in the hotel lobby on November 21.

Each year Claridge’s asks one of the its fashionable friends to design the epic Christmas display.

The annual collaboration began in 2009 with John Galliano for Dior, and since then everyone from Christopher Bailey for Burberry and Alber Elbaz for Lanvin has been let loose on the iconic lobby.

Last year Diane Von Furstenburg eschewed the traditional fir tree in favour of an iridescent ‘Tree of Love,’ and the year before Karl Lagerfeld opted for a kooky upside down Christmas creation.

Not known for his understated approach, Louboutin’s tree will, like his shoes, no doubt be equal parts boundary-pushing and fabulous.

“I have been a long time guest of Claridge’s and consider it my second home when in London. It is an honour to be invited to design the Claridge’s Christmas Tree which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year,” said Christian Louboutin. “Claridge’s is one of the most magical destinations with the tree being one of the city’s highlights at Christmas. I am glad to bring a little piece of Paris to such an iconic London landmark.”

Claridge’s co-owner Paddy McKillen said “Christmas has always been a truly special time of year for us here at Claridge’s and we are delighted to have Christian bring his festive magic to the hotel. This year, we promise some extra special touches and of course a few surprises.”

We don’t doubt that Louboutin will put his spin on the seasonal celebration… which makes us wonder, can a Christmas tree be given a red sole?
