Chvrches have said they are receiving death and rape threats after speaking out about their former collaborator Marshmello for working with Chris Brown.

As reported by TMZ, frontwoman Lauren Mayberry addressed the abuse the band have been receiving, saying, ‘We weren’t picking on Chris Brown for the sake of picking on Chris Brown. It was a morally dubious decision that happened.’

She went on to explain that as a band and a business, Chvrches have to be honest and they would be ‘really hypocritical’ to work with someone and didn’t comment on their collaborator’s next move.

‘I thought domestic violence was wrong,’ continued Lauren, ‘And now I’m going to have to invest in some bullet-proof tutus because apparently that doesn’t go down well with the Breezy fans.’

The singer later joked that by threatening to shoot and rape her, her abusers had proved her point about why Chris Brown shouldn’t be promoted by other musicians.

Brown, who plead no contest to assaulting his ex-girlfriend Rihanna, responded to the Scottish band’s criticism with a nasty rant in which he said he wishes they would ‘walk in front of a speeding bus full of mental patients’.

The fracas began after Marshmello released a new song, Light It Up, which features Kylie Jenner’s ex-boyfriend Tyga and Chris Brown. Chvrches have also recently worked with the producer.

Taking to Instagram, the band said they liked and respected Marshmello as a person but couldn’t stand behind his decision to work with a person convicted of domestic assault.
