Christmas pay dates: Will you be paid before Christmas?

Kachingle bells – payday comes early, but can you budget for a long January?

When it comes to Christmas, it can be hard to pick the very best thing about the season, from seeing your friends and family to the Christmas music to, of course, the presents.

But there are some parts of the festivities that can be trying – and for many that’s usually the cost of it all.

Many employers will change the payday for December so that you have money to cover Christmas.

This is also in part because banks can’t process payments if your payday falls on one of the bank holidays at the end of December.

With Christmas Day falling on a Wednesday this year, it’s likely your employer will pay you before – on either 23 or 24 December.

Many might even pay you the week before, giving you enough money to get everything you might need.

With one in seven Brits worrying about money every day as they put Christmas on their credit cards, there are some useful resources out there for those looking to budget this festive season.

Giving up on presents altogether might be too drastic for some, but you can check out Equifax’s tips to help those budgeting over Christmas, such as always keeping your present receipts and putting a small amount of savings away each year specifically to cover Christmas.
