Christmas Day TV schedule 2019: What’s on TV tonight?

Christmas Day TV is a staple and necessary aspect of any celebration on December 25 and this year’s festive telly line-up features plenty of great shows and specials across the BBC, ITV and Channel 4.

Once the turkey has been eaten, the presents have been opened and there’s one too many empty bottles in the recycling bin, there’s no better place to rest after a full on festive day than curled up on the sofa in front of the TV.

Here’s what’s on across the main TV channels tonight on Christmas Day:

BBC One

Christmas Day sees the long awaited return of Gavin & Stacey to our screens as well as a one hour dose of Christmas Day drama courtesy of the residents of Albert Square in EastEnders. Both Strictly Come Dancing and Call the Midwife have Christmas specials airing tonight and stand up comedian Michael McIntyre is bringing the funny – festive style.

BBC Two

BBC Two are airing the 1975 Christmas special of Dad’s Army on Christmas Day as well as some choice moments of festive fun from a decade of Morecambe and Wise Christmas specials. There’s a focus on country music legend Dolly Parton tonight too, with both a documentary charting her extraordinary life and career and a look back at her Glastonbury set from the summer.

There’s a double helping of both Emmerdale and Coronation Street on ITV tonight as both soaps air their respective festive specials. Plus, chefs Gordon Ramsay, Gino D’Acampo and Fred Sirieix follow up their hilarious European adventures for a desert expedition starting in Morocco.

Rocketman actor Taron Egerton joins Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty for a festive special of the chef pals’ cooking show and later on in the evening Kylie Minogue teams up with Alan Carr to surprise some of her biggest fans with an exclusive performance.
