Christmas comes to Barry Island as Gavin And Stacey filming continues for festive special

It might be July and (finally) sunny outside, but Christmas has come to Barry Island, thanks to the upcoming Gavin And Stacey reunion.

And we are definitely feeling the festive spirit.

In pictures taken on Trinity Street, Christmas lights and decorations were spotted all over Uncle Bryn’s house.

One snap shows a light-up Santa stuck on the wall beside his front door, while another sees Father Christmas on a penny farthing bike.

We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Mint Baileys and a James Blunt playlist at the ready, everyone…

A sign shows the road in question will be closed for two days, from 3pm until 3am, so filming can continue.

According to Wales Online, the production company told locals: ‘It will be when many residents will be sleeping. There will be a cherry picker with a high platform carrying a large lamp on it to light a section of Trinity Street.

‘There will of course be a certain amount of noise, but rest assured, we will do whatever we can to ensure that disturbance is kept to a minimum.’

James Corden (Smithy) and Ruth Jones (Nessa) sent Gavin And Stacey fans into a total meltdown recently, as they confirmed the comedy would be returning for a one-hour Christmas special.

We can’t wait to see what Nessa makes of these… (Picture: Media Wales)

‘Over the last ten years we’ve talked a lot about Gavin And Stacey – where they might be today and what their lives might look like,’ they said. ‘And so in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one hour special.

‘We’ve loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy.

Sorry, this video isn’t available any more.

‘We’re so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas. Thank you BBC for helping to make this happen.’

While the cast have been tight-lipped about what exactly is in store for the Essex and Barry natives, Larry Lamb did tease that the script is ‘very clever’.

Which basically tells us nothing, Mick…

During an appearance on Loose Women, he said: ‘It’s so secret I shouldn’t even really be here. As far as I’m concerned, I think what they’ve managed to do, it’s very clever, because everybody’s waiting for it, everybody’s been going on about it for ten years… and then I got to read the script.

‘Really in the end, what they’ve managed to do, they’ve not tried to turn it into a great big circus or something, they’ve rolled it on, and there you are ten years down the line.

‘Everything you’d want is going to be there.’

Asked if we could potentially see more specials, Larry added: ‘It’s just a one-off. A Christmas special.’

Hopefully we finally find out what happened on that fateful fishing trip…
