Christian Pulisic hailed former Chelsea ace Eden Hazard as an ‘incredible player’ who he ‘looked up to’ but insists he is not comparing himself to the Real Madrid star.

Pulisic replaced the Belgium international at Stamford Bridge and the pair are set to face off in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals in Madrid on Tuesday night.

Hazard, 30, returned to action from the bench in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Real Betis and will now hope to play some part against his former club, although a start seem unlikely.

That was just his 10th La Liga appearance of the season in what’s been an injury-hit campaign – a common theme of his time in the Spanish capital.

He has only scored three goals in all competitions this season but Pulisic and his Chelsea team-mates are aware of what a threat Hazard is when fit.

‘He was an incredible player at this football club,’ said Pulisic.

‘He was someone who I definitely looked up to. I am not comparing myself to him in any way or trying to be like him.

‘I’m my own player and I’m doing my best for this club. It’s an honour to hear comparisons but I still have a way to go.

‘We’re moving on without him. I never played with him so I only know how it is without him.

‘We are in a good place now. We are in the semi-final of the Champions League. We have got a lot to play for this season, and this team definitely is in a good situation.’
