Christian Bale is no longer going to drastically change his weight for roles


Christian Bale never wants to gain or lose a lot of weight for a movie role ever again. 

However, Bale, whose weight has repeatedly fluctuated throughout his career depending on the part that he is playing, recently admitted to CBS, via Entertainment Weekly, that he has made this promise before.

“I keep saying I’m done with it,” the Ford v Ferrari star declared, before insisting, “I really think I’m done with it, yeah.”

Bale’s physical transformations have been a cornerstone of his career. Most strikingly, Bale lost 62 pounds for The Machinist as he stuck to a diet of water, an apple, a cup of coffee and an occasional whiskey per day. Then after being cast for Batman Begins immediately after he had to binge on pizza and ice cream for six months in order to gain the necessary 100 pounds.

Since then he has lost weight to play a heroin addict in The Fighter, while he has also had to gain bulk for American Hustle and Vice, in which he played former Vice President Dick Cheney. 

Bale went straight from Vice to Ford v Ferrari, with his co-star Matt Damon telling the same interview that Bale lost 70 pounds for the film.

“I had a great time watching him. He’s got an incredible monk-like discipline…he went from Dick Cheney to this guy. So he had to lose 70 pounds.”

Audiences will get to see Bale and Damon in action in Ford V Ferrari, which revolves around the build-up to the legendary 24 hours of Le Mans event in 1966, when the biographical drama is released on November 15.
