Chris Sutton claims Arsenal target Kieran Tierney should cost as much as Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Chris Sutton has hit out at Celtic’s £25m valuation of Kieran Tierney by stating that the left-back is on a par with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is set to join Manchester United for £50m.

Arsenal are leading the chase for Tierney and are reportedly confident of signing him having made an improved bid of around £18m after having an offer worth £15m knocked back.

Manchester United are also on the verge of adding an exciting young full-back to their squad with Wan-Bissaka closing in on his move for Crystal Palace following a breakthrough in talks.

However, former Celtic striker Sutton has accused Premier League clubs of signing players from Scotland ‘on the cheap’ and believes that Tierney should be valued higher.

In a Twitter post, Sutton said: ‘Wan Bissaka is not twice the player Tierney is. They are very similar attribute wise…Stones was never a better player than Van Dijk yet was four times more…English clubs get players from Scotland on the cheap. About time Scottish clubs dug their heels in…’

Tierney, 22, has amassed 170 appearances for Celtic and been a part of their ‘treble-treble’ team, winning ten major honours since establishing himself during the 2015-16 season.

Despite facing competition from Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson, Tierney has also been capped 12 times by Scotland’s senior side.

In contrast, 21-year-old Wan-Bissaka has made only 46 senior appearances since breaking into the Crystal Palace team 18-months ago while he is yet to be capped by Gareth Southgate for England.

Celtic have made a habit of selling their best players to Premier League clubs with Virgil Van Dijk, Victor Wanyama and Stuart Armstrong all joining Southampton in recent years.

French striker Moussa Dembele became their record sale when he joined Lyon for £19.7m last season and Celtic are looking to eclipse that should Tierney depart for Arsenal.
