Saturday Night Live legend Chris Rock has recalled the last time he saw castmate and friend Chris Farley alive before the comedian died from an overdose.

Farley died in December 1997 aged 33 from a cocaine and morphine overdose, following years of drug and alcohol addiction.

Speaking about the final photo the pair were seen in together, alongside fellow-SNL ‘Bad Boys’ Adam Sandler and David Spade, Chris said not long after when he visited Farley at his Chicago apartment he ‘knew’ it would be the last time he saw him alive.

In Esquire’s series Explain This, Chris remembers his friends attending his first big tour, Bring The Pain, in 1996 with the four men seen in a picture beaming at the camera, with their arms wrapped around one another.

The moment was also tinged with sadness as Chris noted: ‘This looks like one of the last times I saw Chris alive.

‘I would see him one more time when I did a gig in Chicago. We tried to hang out afterwards, but… I don’t know if you’ve ever really hung out with an addict. Towards the end, anything that isn’t the drug is a chore.’

He went on to recall their last night together, with Chris visiting Farley’s apartment and suspecting, as he left, it was the final time he’d be seeing him.

Chris said: ‘I remember I was at his apartment. He was showing me his apartment. I leave, I see him out the window, and I was like, “That’s probably the last time I’m going to see him.”

‘I knew.’

Farley was a beloved member of the SNL cast and had a larger than life persona, and outlandish sense of humour, which has been celebrated in the decades since his death.

Speaking about the bond he still shares with Adam and David, Chris added of their time on SNL alongside Farley: ‘Me, Sandler, Spade, and Farley – we shared an office at Saturday Night Live.

‘We called it a dorm. We’re friends to this day. I love those guys.’

Farley’s presence continues to permeate SNL and during his last hosting slot in 2019 Adam paid tribute to the late star with Chris Farley Song, while all three were present when he was posthumously awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in 2005, with his mother picking up the plaque in his name.
