Chris Rock assures ‘Saw’ fans: Jigsaw Killer movie will be horror with ‘elements of humor’

Comedian Chris Rock has assured fans that the horror will continue with his new “Saw” movie.

Rock answered questions on Instagram Stories Sunday, speaking about his involvement with the torture franchise reboot announced last week.

The comedian/actor/director, 54, said the new “Saw” will have just “elements of humor” amid the torture and horror.

“We’re not making ‘Scary Movie’ or anything like that,” Rock said in the video (saved on TheBlast), alluding to the spoof horror franchise. “It’s gonna be ‘Saw.’ So don’t worry.”

Rock will star in and executive produce the new film that comes out Oct. 23, 2020.

Rock came up with the horror concept, still under wraps, that expands the world of “Saw” and the Jigsaw Killer — the demented, lethal freak played by Tobin Bell who puts his prey through terrifying tests and cuts a puzzle piece-shaped chunk of flesh from his many victims.

“I’ve been a fan of ‘Saw’ since the first film in 2004,” Rock in a Lionsgate release last week. “I am excited by the opportunity to take this to a really intense and twisted new place.”

Jigsaw made his debut in the first 2004 film “Saw,” and kept his serial-killing ways in “Saw II,” “Saw III,” “Saw IV,” “Saw V,” “Saw VI,” “Saw 3D” and the most recent film in the popular franchise, 2017’s “Jigsaw.”

“When Chris Rock came to us and described in chilling detail his fantastic vision that reimagines and spins off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer, we were all in,” said Joe Drake, chairman of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group.

Drake added that Rock would be “completely reverential” to the horror legacy while the film would benefit from the comedian’s “wit and creative vision.”

The screenplay, based on Rock’s concept, will be written by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. The untitled film will be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who has helmed three of the most successful “Saw” films.

The news brought out some surprised reaction from horror fans on Twitter.
