Chris Hughes says Jesy Nelson is his girlfriend and then compares her to his MUM

Chris Hughes went public with his romance with Jesy Nelson this morning – before ruining the moment by comparing her to his mum.

The Love Island star joined best friend Kem Cetinay on the KISS Breakfast Show to reveal he IS dating the Little Mix singer after weeks of speculation.

“I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. It’s official, she’s my girlfriend,” he gushed. “I’m proper nervous in here now.

“I’m so happy, she’s the nicest girl I’ve ever met, this is no exaggeration, she’s got a heart like she was your mother or something.”

Chris trailed off as he realised what he said, as Kem jumped in to quip: “Not the right comparison there.”

Breakfast presenters Tom and Daisy rushed in to smooth over the awkward comparison, with Daisy suggesting Jesy is “maternal”.

Recovering quickly, Chris went on: “She’s so caring, exactly. We just get on like best mates, and that’s the beauty about it.”

Kem, who won Love Island 2017 with Amber Davies, said his mate has never felt this way about a girlfriend before, then confirmed he’s yet to meet Jesy.

“I’ve never seen him like this, and we’re very close. I know we’ve only known each other two years!” Kem said.

“But I’m a little bit worried… What happens to me now? He’s got a new love of his life, what happens to the old love? I’ve been pushed to the side.”

Chris went on to get his new girlfriend’s birthday wrong, claiming it’s June 15 when it’s actually June 14.

He confirmed their romance over the weekend with a series of cute videos involving chicken nuggets and a Big Mac.

Sharing a cute snap of the pair on Friday night, Chris captioned a shot of them kissing: “The only inmate I’ve ever needed.”

Both were wearing orange jumpsuits for the fun evening, which took place in London’s Shoreditch at a pop-up panic room based on the high-security US prison Alcatraz.

Chris later shared a snap of the pair eating McDonald’s.

The pair’s romance comes after week of speculation, following a very racy trip to a kebab shop together, which set tongues wagging.

However, an insider told Mirror Online that Jesy first set her sights on Chris long before the steamy encounter.

“Jesy has been hot for Chris for years – since watching him in Love Island,” they said.

“Her management weren’t too keen but she has gone with her heart.”

As Jesy was with boyfriend Harry James when Chris’ Love Island aired, it wasn’t until she was single and he messaged her in November that their flirtation heated up.
