Chris Hemsworth is following up the success of his Netflix original movie Extraction by securing another upcoming thriller with the streaming platform.

According to reports, the Thor actor, 37, has been snapped up to star in futuristic film Spiderhead alongside the likes of Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett.

The movie will be based on the short story Escape From Spiderhead by George Saunders, with Joseph Kosinski, who worked on Top Gun: Maverick, set to direct.

It tells the story of convicts who sign themselves up to volunteer as test patients in a medical experiment that uses emotion-altering drugs in a bid to reduce their prison sentences.

The drugs force the convicts to grapple with their pasts in the testing facility that is run by a brilliant scientist and visionary.

Deadline reports that the script will be penned by Zombieland and Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and Hemsworth will also serve as a producer on the film.

Little else is so far known about the movie, but it comes after Hemsworth had huge success with Netflix original Extraction, which saw him play mercenary Tyler Rake, who is hired to rescue the son of an imprisoned crime lord who has been kidnapped.

The movie was a hit with viewers, with Extraction breaking records to become the most watched Netflix original movie of all time.

It was viewed by 99million accounts within the first month of its release, reports CNet, with the film beating the likes of Sandra Bullock’s Birdbox which recorded 89million accounts on its release in 2018.

Fans are also set to see Chris reprise his role as Marvel superhero Thor in the fourth movie of the much-loved franchise.

He’ll be returning as the hammer-wielding god in Thor: Love and Thunder and Chris has reassured fans that he’s hoping there’ll be many more Thor movies to come.

When asked if he’ll be retiring after the fourth movie hits the big screen, Chris told Elle Man: ‘I am not going into any retirement period. Thor is way too young for that. He’s only 1,500 years old!

‘It is definitely not a film that I say goodbye to this brand. At least I hope so.’
