Chris Evans: Virgin Radio host's co-star breaks down in tears after heartbreaking news

Chris Evans’ Virgin Radio Breakfast Show co-host, Vassos Alexander, was overcome with emotion when he read a heart-breaking letter penned by a four-year-old girl. Young Ella Lennon had written a Mother’s Day card for her mum, who tragically passed way in December. She was “so happy” when she received a letter back from a staff member at Royal Mail, who took the time out to reply. When Chris, 53, spoke about the touching gesture on his radio show, he declared “you won’t read a more heart-warming story this year’.

He then issued a “mascara warning”, before handing over to Vassos who broke down in tears reading Ella’s letter,

“I’ll break down in the second or third paragraph,” the sports reporter admitted.

With a tear streaming down his face, Vassos read the Despicable Me themed card which touchingly said, “you’re one in a minion, Mum.”

There was not a dry eye in the studio, as the reply letter read: “To my beautiful Ella, thank you so much for my very special Mother’s Day card.

“You’re one in a Minion to me. I love you so much.”

Also, the return address on the envelope of the letter read: “1 Angel Gate, In The Clouds, Heaven”.

Chris is a father of four, so naturally, he was touched by Ella’s message, as was the entire team at Virgin Radio Breakfast Show.

The radio DJ welcomed twins Boo and Walt with his wife, Natasha Shishmanian, last year and also has two older children.

He gushed about the babies during one of his last shows on BBC Radio 2, before moving to Virgin Radio.

Despite only leaving the corporation in December to join the rival station, the TV star recently hinted at retirement after a listener revealed he was enjoying his first day of retirement.

During a conversation with listener, Dave, 61, earlier this week, Chris said he needed some retirement “tips”.

“Today for the first time Chris I’m never going back to work, I retired,” the listener told Chris.

Dave revealed he planned to visit the gym and sort out his garage and admitted he was “loving” retirement already.

Chris replied: “That’s fantastic, come back tomorrow and tell us how your first day of retirement was.”

Hinting his retirement was on the horizon, Chris added: “I’ll need some tips soon.”

Chris Evans’ Virgin Radio Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am.
